We watched the sun set during our flight from Vienna,
Austria to Venice, Italy on the evening on Sunday, April 1. It was beautiful!
We made reservations to stay at Camping Rialto. (In
Spanish, the English verb “camping” is used as the Spanish noun, meaning “campsite.”)
We were slightly surprised to see that we were actually going to be camping,
literally.
Our tour guide on Monday, April 2 was a free map of
Venice, given to us by the Camping, with suggestions for what to see along
several different walking-tour routes. I really enjoyed looking around and
following the map—it felt like a scavenger hunt!

Venice is quite the precious city. Eating ice cream on
the dock reminded me of being in Downtown Annapolis!
Needless to say, the ice cream was delicious. It was
real, Italian gelato. I tried a different flavor every day ;)
Annie and I ended up having an every-other-day routine,
where every other day we would tour the city, and every other day we would
travel to the next destination. Tuesday, April 3 was the day we traveled to
Florence, Italy.
